7 reasons working at a golf course makes you want to be a better person

Any part time job you have while working your way through school is going to be a struggle. If you actually enjoy going to work every day, I’m sure I won’t be the first to tell you that you are extremely lucky. Minimum wage work is incredibly humbling, but as much as I joke about how terrible of a time I have while I’m there, it really isn’t half bad. You learn to “grin and bear it” and put up with the most unreasonable people, all while making a measly $9 an hour. So without further ado, here are the 7 reasons being an employee at a golf course makes you want to be a better person.

1. Because there is such a thing as a stupid question.

"Can I have the reduced rate that starts at 4 o'clock?" "Uh sir, it's 2 o'clock..." Sorry not sorry, dude.

2. You realize how insignificant $10 really is in the long run.

If I had a dollar for every time a customer asked for a discount because they played the course every day that week and then proceeded to lecture me until a manager intervened when I said no, I'd be on an island in Fiji right now.

3. I don’t want to be a 60-year-old woman who yells at part-time workers in her spare time.

If I need a hobby, I'll pick up crocheting.

4. You encounter the most pleasant and the most unpleasant people.

When people would tell you that you'd turn out just like your parents, it either made you smile or want to go change everything about yourself. The same is true for customers; they are either the cause of your increasing bitterness, or you are so determined not to be like them that you remain positive through shockingly inappropriate insults.

5. You appreciate Willis Carrier on a whole different level.

The inventor of modern air conditioning.

6. You make a pact with yourself not to be an asshole like some of the customers you serve.

7. You learn not to sweat the small stuff.

Because there are worse things in the world than sitting behind a desk all day.
