'Live from New York it's Saturday night!'

Celebrity’s such as Justin Timberlake, Cameron Diaz, Taylor Swift and Betty White are just a few of the many guest to host the late-night comedic show known as Saturday Night Live. These celebrities in particular are the ones that I remember being amazing at making fun of themselves on the show.

If rumors had been circulating Hollywood recently and they were chosen to host the show, you knew one of the topics they would talk about or a skit they preformed would be about that. It is the perfect show to bring up issues in the country and gossip in Hollywood in a comedic manner.

Since it is a show that in order to be in the live audience you must be 18, it is obviously for mature audiences. It is also, contrary to what a lot of people seem to think, a show for entertainment. It does criticize public figures and officials, but it is all in good fun. There are always going to be critics, especially because the show is so controversial. It is funny but it could also be offensive for people who are sensitive to certain subjects.

On one of the more recent episodes with Adam Levine, the show talks about Barack Obama and his decision in “providing women across the nation with coverage of recommended preventive care at no cost, while respecting religious concerns,” said Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

In the segment on Saturday Night Live, Weekend Update with Seth Myers, he discusses a news story about how after his State of the Union speech he was throwing birth control to the crowd. For most of the people watching the show, this would be funny. For the more sensitive viewers, this may be a tad offensive or even angering. A lot of women have been fighting for this birth control mandate and the show’s decision to make fun of it may upset them.

I don’t quite understand why people would be offended by this show since no one forces you to watch it. Also, it is clearly for entertainment and comedy. The fact that they take political, celebrity and other random news or gossip and turn it into comedy is hilarious to me. There is no other show like it.
